The future of Fijian rugby sevens might just be unfolding before our eyes! National Men’s 7s head coach, Osea Kolinisau, is keeping a keen eye on the rising stars of the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament, hinting at potential call-ups to the national squad. This is fantastic news for Fijian rugby!
Speaking with fijivillage Sports, Kolinisau didn't hold back his praise. He specifically mentioned the impressive performances of the Yaro Chiefs' prop and wing, as well as the Police Blue prop. He also lauded Jack Volavola for his composed leadership and control in the backline.
And this is the part most people miss... Kolinisau also acknowledged the experience brought by former Fiji 7s veteran, Bill Nakausa, who played for the Ravuka Sharks.
Kolinisau emphasized how thrilled he is to witness such a wealth of local talent, stating he wouldn't be surprised to see some of these players invited to training camp for upcoming international competitions. This is a clear indication of the talent pipeline developing within Fiji. He also gave a shout-out to the Yaro Chiefs and Ravuka Sharks, both village-based teams that made it to the final. This is a testament to the Coral Coast 7s' growing strength and competitiveness.
The men's final is scheduled to kick off at 5:35 PM today at Lawaqa Park. Are you excited to see these potential future stars in action? What do you think about the coach's selections? Let us know in the comments!
