A major disruption has hit train services to and from Heathrow Airport, causing severe delays for travelers. But here's where it gets controversial... the cause? A fire at a property near the railway line in Southall.
Great Western Rail confirmed that the fire, which occurred between Reading and London Paddington, has led to a reduction in train services. Train passengers traveling to and from these stations may face cancellations or significant delays, with disruptions expected to last until 11 pm.
The PA news agency reported a fire at a recycling center in Johnson Street, Southall, southwest London, where approximately 15 tonnes of mixed recycling went up in flames.
The London Fire Brigade responded to the blaze on Sunday afternoon, deploying eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to tackle the incident.
Heathrow Express also issued a statement, explaining that the fire has resulted in a temporary halt to their services to the airport, due to an "incident outside of their control."
Transport for London further confirmed that the Elizabeth Line is currently not operational between Paddington, Reading, and Heathrow, citing a "fire alert" as the reason for the disruption. They added that London Underground is accepting tickets via alternative routes and that the rest of the line is operating as normal.
So, what do you think? Is this an acceptable level of disruption, or should more be done to prevent such incidents from impacting travel? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
