MMA Grappling Bout: Shara Magomedov vs Arman Tsarukyan - Weight Controversy (2026)

In a bold and surprising assertion, Shara Magomedov has claimed that he was heavier than Arman Tsarukyan during their recent grappling encounter, despite the clear size difference favoring Tsarukyan. This statement raises eyebrows given the context of both fighters' typical weight classes.

When at their peak performance, Tsarukyan competes in the UFC as a lightweight, weighing in at 155 pounds. In contrast, Magomedov is classified as a middleweight, coming in at 185 pounds. This significant difference in weight became even more apparent when they faced off earlier this week.

So, here’s a thought: Would you be interested in seeing these two competitors go head-to-head again in a rematch? After their grappling match ended in a stalemate, a mixed martial arts showdown between Tsarukyan and Magomedov could spark some excitement. What do you think?

While it's common for fighters to gain weight between bouts, a recent clip featuring Tsarukyan revealed that after UFC Qatar, he only weighed 173.5 pounds. If Magomedov's assertion were accurate, Tsarukyan would have needed to bulk up by over 12 pounds, which seems unlikely.

HOLLYWOOD: Shara Magomedov is optimistic that the UFC’s $7.7 billion broadcasting agreement will pave the way for his new career aspirations outside of MMA.

Following the grappling match with Tsarukyan, which ended in a draw as both fighters had their hands raised, opinions varied on who truly won. Many observers believed Tsarukyan had the upper hand, but Magomedov had a different perspective. He downplayed the perceived weight difference between them, asserting that during the official weigh-ins, Tsarukyan actually weighed .1 kg more than him. Official records showed both fighters at the same weight of 84.5 kg (just over 186 lbs), though this seemed unrealistic based on their physical appearances during the match.

"Why has there been talk about a 20 kg (45 lb) weight gap? That’s just not accurate," Magomedov expressed in a conversation with Red Corner MMA. "I weighed in at 84.2 kg, while he was at 84.3 kg, so technically, he was heavier by 100 grams.

"Since then, I’ve put on an extra 3 kg because I’ve been eating, so now I’m around 87 kg. I lost about 1 kg through sweat before the match. I’d estimate I was around 86 kg during our bout, so any weight difference was likely no more than 2 kg at the most.

"There’s a stark contrast between a 20 kg difference and just 2 kg, yet this myth continues to persist, and I’m not sure why it’s being spread."

If you find this discussion intriguing, don’t hesitate to let us know your thoughts. Do you agree with Magomedov’s assessment, or do you think the weight difference played a significant role in their match? Your comments are welcome!
