The fintech company OnDeck conducted an extensive analysis of Yelp reviews for women-owned businesses across 431 major US cities. Among the 12,789 small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) evaluated, wedding photographers emerged as the clear customer satisfaction leaders.
One success story is A Tale Ahead, a wedding photography business in Pacifica owned by Annie and David Zou. With an impressive 100% five-star rating from 391 Yelp reviews, they topped the survey. Annie's journey is inspiring, as she shares, "I learned to lead with clarity and project confidence to build trust with my clients." Her dedication paid off, and now she enjoys a thriving business with a stellar reputation.
Genevieve Elaine from Virginia and Vitalia Kotik from New Jersey also made it to the top three, solidifying the trend. But here's where it gets interesting: four of the top ten spots were claimed by non-photography SMBs, including a florist, a gym equipment installer, a notarial practice, and a wedding venue.
OnDeck's methodology involved searching Yelp for women-owned SMBs with at least a 4-star rating from 50 reviews in the selected cities. They then manually verified each business's website to ensure they were small businesses. However, the study doesn't specify the exact definition of an SMB, which the Small Business Administration defines as companies with 500 or fewer employees.
